Road

Road bikes may look the same as they used to 30 years ago, but a lot hides under that familiar shape. Components have come a long way, with weights down and durability up. The new ergonomic shifters, built into the brake levers have been one of the biggest advents in the last year. Being able to change gears from the handlebars makes riding much safer. The other big change is compact frame technology. Compact frames create a smaller presence in the air reducing wind resistance. They also use shorter frame tubes, which increases the stiffness, and enhances power transfer to the ground.

Racing:

Racing bikes are generally aggressive handling, light-weight machines. They work well for long, high speed trips, short sprints and anything where speed is required.

Touring:

A touring bike differs from a racing bike in its weight and geometry. Touring bikes are more relaxed, for lower speeds and greater stability. They are also a little sturdier, with stronger wheels, and frames, to handle the added weight of bags and gear. rack mounts and stronger brakes are also standard fare.

Time Trial (Triathlon):

Time trial bikes are designed with aerodynamics in mind. They are set up with aero bars to keep the wind resistance down, as well as aero wheels, seatposts, and forks.
