Junior
At Skookum, we believe in making it easy for you to get your kids into cross-country skiing. That is why we take trades on new equipment and provide our 1/2 Back Program. Basically, if you buy equipment from us one year, and the little ones grow out of it by the next year, you can bring it back and get 1/2 of the purchase price back towards the new stuff. This means you don't have to keep shelling out full price for new equipment each year, and your kids are happy because their stuff fits. It also means we usually have a good supply of good used equipment available.
Sizing
Kids skis should be head height to 10cm above the head, depending on age and ability. Boots are the most important part of the system. they should be fitted as close as possible, without having to wear 3 pairs of socks. If you push their toes right to the front of the boot, you should have about a fingers width between their heel and the back of the boot. Poles should be around armpit height, much like adult sizing.
Styles
Most junior skis are designed for classic skiing. The local Jackrabbit club recommends the kids use waxless skis until they start into more skate skiing. At that stage a waxable ski works best. There are combi, skate, and classic junior skis once you get into the longer junior lengths (150-170cm).
